Read a roster the way a coach plans one.
ScoutPath turns a published roster into position depth, class distribution and a projection for next season. It labels every projection as inferred, because a roster page tells you who is there, not who is leaving.

Illustrative example with a fictional roster of 29 players. Real programs show the roster source, the season and the date it was collected.
What is computed
From the roster alone, for each position group: goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards.
- Depth now
- Players listed at each position group. Players listed at two positions count toward their first.
- Class distribution
- Freshmen through graduate students, with redshirt status where the roster shows it.
- International composition
- Home country as listed or, if only a hometown is given, inferred from it and marked as inferred. Nationality is never treated as a spoken language.
- Projected depth
- Players now, minus departures confirmed in our records, minus final-year players with no remaining eligibility listed, plus incoming players announced publicly.
- Target depth
- A heuristic per position: 3 goalkeepers, 9 defenders, 10 midfielders, 7 forwards. It is a starting value for agencies to adjust, not a fact about any program.
How a position is classified
Projected depth against target depth, unless the program confirmed a need.
- Confirmed needThe program published or confirmed the need, and the source is on record. Never inferred.
- Estimated openingProjected depth falls below the target. The most useful signal for an agency, and still only a signal.
- Typical depthProjected depth equals the target.
- Well coveredProjected depth exceeds the target.
- Need unknownNo usable roster is stored for the program.
What can make an inference wrong
Shown alongside every forecast, not hidden in a help page.
- Academic class is not remaining eligibility. A listed senior may return through a redshirt year, an extra year or graduate study.
- Transfers and early departures are often announced late or not at all.
- Rosters change during the season, and archived rosters may be incomplete.
- Coaches recruit for style and quality, not only for numbers.
Confidence is lowered when the roster is not from the current season, when many class years are missing, or when the opportunity depends only on unconfirmed departures.
